Easy Valentine's Heart Shaped Cake Recipe For That Special Someone

Looking for a sentimental gift to give that special someone for Valentine's Day? What's more sentimental than creating a cake with love! Our friends over at Satin Ice have the perfect, simple recipe for a heart shaped cake to make the best gift anyone could ask for from their significant other.

The Recipe:

2 lbs. of fondant
1/2 ounce gum paste (for letters)
Food coloring gels - rose pink, lemon, leaf green, violet, electric pink
Heart cutter (approx. 4 1/4" x 4 1/4")
Small serrated knife
Small offset spatula
Scalpel/paring knife
Fondant smoothers
Small rolling pin
Small paintbrush

1. Using the Heart Cutter, create 2 layers of cake. (it can be any flavor from chocolate to vanilla to strawberry, etc!)

Pro-tip: Use the cutter to make a heart shape with cardboard so you have a heart shaped base!

2. Add vanilla buttercream on base to hold the bottom layer heart cake in place.

3. Add another layer of buttercream on top of the bottom layer for the second layer of heart cake to stick.

Pro-tip: Stick in freezer for 15 - 20 minutes to make it easier to work with!

4. Shape the cake a little bit with a small serated knife.

Pro-tip: Make sure you cut it to the base so it's easier once you stick the buttercream icing & fondant on!

5. Frost it with butter cream. (apply two coats)

Pro-tip: Measure the cake at the widest part with a tape measure to ensure your fondant will cover the entire cake!

6. Roll out fondant with a rolling pin & place it over the cake. (make sure the fondant is the same size as the cake)

7. To create your letters you can use gum paste to say whatever lovely message you would like to give your significant other.
