What to do if your melting wafers arrive melted

What to do if your melting wafers arrive melted.

You ordered your melting wafers, tracked the package, & counted down the days until they arrived, only to open the box & find that they melted. First of all: take a breath! This is fixable, & your wafers are far from ruined.

why does this happen?

Melting wafers are sensitive to heat, & depending on the weather, the shipping route, & how long a package sits on a truck or porch, temperatures inside the box can climb higher than we'd like. Even with cold packs, S&C can't guarantee that your wafers won't arrive softened or fully melted. It's an unfortunate reality of shipping a temperature-sensitive product, & unfortunately, it happens more often than any of us would like.

Here's the good news: melting is a texture problem, not a quality problem. Your wafers are just as good as the day they shipped! Nothing about the flavor, the ingredients, or the performance of your chocolate has changed. It just needs a little help getting back into shape.

what to do next?

If your wafers arrived already re-set but clumpy or misshapen, don't worry, they're still totally usable. Simply break them into smaller pieces & melt them down like normal for your next project.

If you'd like to reset them into a more workable form ahead of time, here's the method we recommend:

1.     Line a baking pan with parchment paper.

2.     Completely melt the wafers and spread the melted wafers coating out thin & even across the pan to set. Make sure to let it set at room temperature (do not use a refrigerator/freezer, as condensation can cause a lot of problems with seizing the wafers).

3.     Once set, chop into pieces & store in an airtight container until you're ready to use them.

A quick tip: the smaller the pieces, the quicker they'll melt when it's time to work with them again, so don't be afraid to chop them down small.

the bottom line

Melted wafers aren't a sign that something went wrong with your order, they're just a sign that chocolate & warm temperatures don't mix. With a quick reset, you'll have workable, ready-to-use wafers again in no time.
